The Cooperative was a vision of Freeman Skaptason who, with the cooperation of the Betel Home Foundation, purchased the property at Sargent and Erin. Once all the Housing Cooperative requirements were in order the Betelstadur Housing Cooperative was formed. The land was purchased from the Betel Home Foundation and a six story building, with 53 one bedroom and 21 two bedroom suites, was built.
Betelstadur has 74 suites, a library, office, post office, beauty parlour, main floor lounge, large assembly area, meeting room, pool table, shuffle board, kitchen, building services area, laundry rooms, two computers for resident use an a mobility suite on each floor.
The building was first occupied in November of 1987 and was officially dedicated on June 17, 1988.
